As you journey through life, you may sometimes feel like you lack the motivation and self-confidence to achieve your goals. But did you know that within you lies a powerful source of energy that can help you overcome these obstacles? This energy center is the 3rd chakra, or the solar plexus chakra.

The Solar Plexus Chakra is the center of inventiveness, perseverance, self-control, resolution, and realization of accomplishment (Itcha shakti). You may also know it as Manipura, which is the Sanskrit name for the Solar Plexus Chakra. In Sanskrit, Manipura means City of Jewels. If learning about the seven chakras intrigues you, I invite you to continue reading for an introduction to the 3rd Chakra.

Introduction to the 3rd Chakra

The 3rd chakra is located in the upper abdomen, near the diaphragm. It is represented with the color yellow and the element of fire. In this article, we explore the human qualities associated with the solar plexus chakra, its symbols, order, signs of imbalance, and how to balance it using various techniques and accessories.

Human qualities affected by this chakra include several human qualities such as self-confidence, motivation, willpower, and personal power. When this chakra is in balance, you feel confident in your abilities and motivated to achieve your goals. You can also assert yourself and set healthy boundaries.

On the other hand, when the 3rd chakra is imbalanced, you experience low self-esteem, lack of motivation, and difficulty asserting yourself. You may also struggle with setting healthy boundaries and feel powerless in certain situations.

Symbols of the 3rd Chakra

The symbol of the third chakra is an Om placed over an inverted triangle. The triangle is seated within a circle between two lotus petals. When taken individually, the meaning of these elements represent wisdom. The third eye chakra is the energy source of Akasha and dominated by the Om1.

The 3rd chakra derives strength from several earthly elements, including the sun, the color yellow, and the element of fire. The sun represents personal power and vitality, while the color yellow symbolizes self-confidence and mental clarity. The element of fire represents transformation and the ability to overcome obstacles.

The spiritual color of the Solar Plexus Chakra or Manipura is yellow. Yellow is one of my favorite colors. I’m attracted to it because of its brightness, and it always cheers me up. When I wear yellow, it lifts my spirits and makes my day easier.

It’s no surprise that yellow is the most luminous of all the colors of the spectrum. From a positive view, it brings enlightenment, creativity, and optimism. Yellow is also a color that promotes abundance, courage, and self-confidence. But, on the other hand, it might bring out the betrayal, cowardice, egoism, and raging anger in a person if this chakra is out of balance.

I also find it very interesting that both the yellow sun and yellow gold shared the qualities of being imperishable, eternal, and indestructible. All this combines to make yellow a highly empowering color!

Positive Affirmations for the Solar Plexus Chakra

The Order of the 3rd Chakra

The 3rd chakra is the third of the seven chakras in the body. It follows the root chakra and the sacral chakra and precedes the heart chakra, the throat chakra, the third eye chakra, and the crown chakra. This Chakra is located in the solar plexus area of the upper part of your belly right where the diaphragm rests or “behind the navel”. Additionally, in the traditional system, this Chakra is the third from the bottom so is referred to as the third chakra.

The Solar Plexus Chakra is symbolized by a circle with 10 petals in which is inscribed a downward-pointing triangle. This is an energy center that provides momentum to realize your goals and ambitions in your lifetime. As a result, it affects your development of warrior energy and is the drive that helps you to stay the course to success.

Signs of 3rd Chakra Imbalance

There are several signs of a 3rd chakra imbalance, including low self-esteem, lack of motivation, difficulty setting boundaries, feeling powerless in certain situations, digestive issues, and adrenal fatigue. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, it may be a sign that it is imbalanced.

How to Balance the 3rd Chakra

There are several techniques you can use to balance your third chakra. One of the most effective ways is through meditation. Sit in a comfortable position and focus on your breath, imagining a yellow light radiating from your solar plexus. Another technique is to practice yoga poses that target the third chakra, such as the warrior pose or the boat pose.

Mantra to Open and Align

The mantra sound for the third chakra is RAM. Chanting this sound will help to open and align the chakra.

  1. Close your eyes, place your hand over the area slightly above your belly button.
  2. Bring to mind the problem or dilemma.
  3. Notice how your third chakra feels when you give it choices regarding the subject you’re struggling with. A sinking or nauseated feeling may tell you that the decision is wrong.
  4. If you present your solar plexus with the right choice, you may feel lightness in the area or you may even feel like you can breathe easier. VIA The Chopra Center

Visualization to Balance the Solar Plexus Chakra

Visualization is a powerful tool for balancing the 3rd chakra. Imagine a bright yellow sun radiating from your solar plexus, filling your entire body with warmth and vitality. See yourself standing tall and confident, assertive and empowered.

Affirmation to Balance the Solar Plexus Chakra

Affirmations are another useful tool for balancing this chakra. Repeat the following affirmation to yourself daily: “I am confident in my abilities and motivated to achieve my goals. I am powerful and assertive, able to set healthy boundaries.” Or you may use a more in-depth affirmation as follows:

As I focus on this yellow light that radiates from my solar plexus, I am able to see all the people in my life, those from the past and present, my family, friends, and even foes. I see them in a circle of light, a loving, healing light. They are truly blessed in this circle, they are of good health and sound mind, they are at peace. I now choose to take back my power from all these people, and I lovingly release all feelings of any pain that they may have caused me. The more I release, the more I love, the more I love, the more I am loved!

(A deep breath in) I lovingly acknowledge, accept and appreciate.

Meditative Music for the Solar Plexus Chakra

Another fantastic tool and my favorite is the right music. Look for music with a strong beat and uplifting lyrics, such as “Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor or “Roar” by Katy Perry. You can also listen to music specifically designed for the 3rd chakra, such as “HEAL SOLAR PLEXUS CHAKRA with Tibetan Singing Bowls | Chakra Healing Meditation Music” by Meditative Mind.

The Minerals for the Solar Plexus Chakra

You may also turn to certain minerals and crystals to balance the 3rd chakra. These include citrine, yellow topaz, and amber. Try holding the crystal in your hand and visualize its energy flowing into your solar plexus, filling you with warmth and vitality.

The color of this chakra is yellow or gold, so any precious gem or crystal in shades of yellow help open up the solar plexus area to bring healing energy to the liver, pancreas, spleen, and stomach areas.

My favorite 3rd chakra healing stones are Citrine, Tiger’s Eye, Yellow Tourmaline, and the Yellow Topaz.
