The living room is the soul of the home and nothing will bring your family more happiness and prosperity than a felicitous Feng Shui living room design. It is the room in your home where everyone gathers for memorable times on many occasions over the years.

Therefore, for the best happy-memory-making environment, it’s important to encourage the healthy energies of good Qi to flow freely throughout your living room. You accomplish this with felicitous feng shui.

Definition: Qi [CHē ] is the name for the energy your environment generates. The entire reason for designing with Feng Shui strategies is so that your environment develops and maintains good Qi.

Even if your living room is small, you can arrange it to encourage the Qi energy to flow in and around the room. Because, depending on where you place your furniture, it impacts the way the Qi energy enters and moves around the room.

Feng Shui for Balanced Energies

Feng shui or Fengshui, also known as Chinese geomancy, is a pseudoscience originating from China, which claims to use energy forces to harmonize individuals with their surrounding environment. The term feng shui literally translates as “wind-water” in English. This is a cultural shorthand taken from the passage of the now-lost Book of Burial recorded in Guo Pu’s commentary: Feng shui is one of the Five Arts of Chinese Metaphysics, classified as physiognomy. The feng shui practice discusses architecture in terms of “invisible forces” that bind the universe, earth, and humanity together, known as qi.

Living Room Location

Before we dive into the colors, let’s first talk about living room location. Ideally, in a true Feng Shui design, the living room is in a part of the house with at least two outside walls.

For the best living room location, you must allow Qi energy to freely enter the room from outside without encumbrance. You don’t want the air to grow stagnant before it reaches your living room.

Rather, a location with two outer walls that allows free-flowing Qi energy to enliven the elements in your living room is ideal.

Living Room Colors

Color serves to reinforce Qi principles and energy. Keep important Feng Shui tips at your fingertips for your selections of living room colors. There is a tool for this! It is called a Bagua Energy Map.

Bagua Energy Map

The Bagua is an energy map that shows us which areas of the space affect specific areas of our lives. The word “bagua” literally translates to “eight areas”.

As you can see in the image below, it is divided into eight sections, each has a geographic designation, a description of an area of life, a color, and an earth element. For those who choose to use directional Feng Shui and a compass to design their interiors, this is the template for you.

Next, here is the bagua as it is commonly used for the Western Feng Shui. They take the eight sections and make a square out of it with nine sections. The way you use it is to put your floor layout over the top of the bagua either with a printout or simply imagine it in your mind.

To help you along this path of discovery, I’ve included a Shui Bagua below.

Of course, it is used for the entire home but you can also use it for specific rooms. Everyone’s needs are different and in these economic times, one room is all some people have.

Imagine that you are holding this chart directly in front of you. Then, stand with your back to the wall that contains the main entrance to your home and look out over your living room.

Now, look at the chart. Then, look to the NW corner of your chart, then from where you are standing, look to the corresponding area in your living room. So, that is how you begin to select the colors for your own felicitous Feng Shui living room.

Additionally, it makes a good point about the Bagua itself because even in the sections of the Bagua, there are various colors within each one. So, you have lots of options for a felicitous color palette for your living room!

Below is a graphic design color trend chart for 2023 that you can use for both your home or your graphic art projects. Use this to get creative today!

Selecting Your Colors

Now let’s move on to the colors themselves. Let’s begin with the hot, fiery colors that might leave you feeling worn. So, tone it down a bit with accessories that cool it off such as velvety blue cushions Also, consider candles in lighter colors that soften the feel of the room. Then, use your bagua to place the accessories accordingly.

If you want to recolor the entire room, take out your bagua energy map and Feng Shui your living room! When you are confident that you’ve determined which elements belong in the living room, it’s an easy transition to the bests materials, colors, and shapes for your space.

A nice little trick is to close your eyes and imagine the bagua red fire section of your living room. This is an area for fire and wood elements in keeping with good Feng Shui energy flow. Perhaps coordinated candles and wooden holders are in order for the decor.
