The concept of chakras has been around for centuries, and it is believed that there are seven energy centers or chakras in our body. The first chakra, also known as the root chakra or Muladhara, is located at the base of the spine. It is associated with our sense of security, stability, and connection to the earth. This chakra is the foundation of our entire energy system and understanding it can help us live a more balanced and fulfilling life.

Red represents the Base Chakra which brings strength wherever it’s found. This color is one of energy, action, confidence, and courage. Moreover, it’s closely associated with our most natural physical will to survive. The Base Chakra is the densest of the seven chakras, so it makes sense that red is also the densest of all chakra colors.

As the foundation of our energy system, the 1st chakra is responsible for our sense of safety and security. It is associated with the earth element and is often represented by the color red. Helping us feel grounded and connected, the root chakra is the first point of contact between our physical body and the earth.

The root chakra is also associated with our basic survival needs, such as food, shelter, and water. When this chakra is balanced, we feel secure, stable, and grounded. However, when it is imbalanced, we may experience fear, anxiety, and a lack of trust in the world around us.

1st Chakra Human Qualities

The root chakra is associated with several human qualities, including stability, feeling grounded, and security. When this chakra is balanced, we feel a sense of safety and security in our lives. We trust in the world around us and feel a deep connection to the earth.

However, when the root chakra is imbalanced, we may experience feelings of anxiety, fear, and insecurity. We may also struggle with issues related to our basic survival needs, such as money, shelter, and food.

The beautiful qualities of this Chakra are many and some are included below:

Grounded • Centered • Mindful • Trusts Others • Independent • Determined • Secure • Patient • Constant • Ambitious • Passionate • Committed • High Energy • Courageous • Stamina • Spirited

This also has a masculine energy, both charismatic and outgoing. However, it commands and will dominate attention. People find that their ambition is greatly increased when red is present in their lives.

Positive Affirmations for Root Chakra Healing

Order of the 1st Chakra

The root chakra is the first chakra in our energy system, and it is the foundation upon which all other chakras are built. When this chakra is balanced, we can move up through the rest of the chakras with ease. However, when it is imbalanced, the rest of our energy system may be thrown off balance as well.

You will find this 1st Chakra at the base of the spine. This is our base for physical energy and vitality. The element is earth for its physical identity and orientation to self-preservation.

The Base Chakra, by definition, naturally provides the basis upon which we move through our lives. This is where we derive our strength to keep going no matter what obstacles get in our way. It is also where we derive our feelings of safety and security with regard to our surroundings or as I like to call it, our personal space.

Signs of 1st Chakra Imbalance

Do you experience anxiety or fears regularly or do things seem blown out of proportion? Do you find yourself having more nightmares than usual?

Physical symptoms may include issues related to the lower body, such as constipation, lower back pain, or problems with the bladder or kidneys. Emotionally, we may experience anxiety, fear, or a lack of trust in the world around us. Spiritually, we may feel disconnected from the earth and struggle to find our place in the world.

So, if you experience a lack of energy and a sense of not being grounded, you might need to re-energize, clear, or open your chakra.

How to Balance the Root Chakra

There are several ways to balance the root chakra, including meditation, yoga, and energy healing. One of the simplest and most effective ways to balance this chakra is through grounding exercises. This may include spending time in nature, walking barefoot on the earth, or visualizing roots extending from our body deep into the earth.

So, open your root chakra by connecting with the earth somehow. Connect with nature in your garden or potted plants on your patio. Be sure to include lots of fresh, healthy food in your diet. Hike, walk, swim, or simply sit on your front porch for a while each day.  But, whatever you do, be sure to include Mother Nature in your game plan.

Find a quiet, private, and comfortable spot and meditate while you repeat the mantra “I AM” silently to yourself.

Also, don’t forget to pay attention to your personal environment. Decorate with red earth elements such as stones, crystal, or plants to raise your energy level. Surround yourself with red things of the earth to find your balance once again.

Delight and wake up your root chakra with delicious red foods such as red peppers, tomatoes, beets, strawberries, apples, and pomegranates. Yum!
