The Sacral Chakra is also the Svadhisthana which is Sanskrit for “vital force” or “dwelling place of the self”. It is the center for all of our emotions. Therefore, it affects our ability to be in healthy relationships and it is the absolute hub of our creativity. What’s more, it drives us to see beyond the ordinary and opens our minds to hold our dreams in reverence and to never give up.

As a believer in the power of holistic healing, I have always been fascinated by the chakras. These energy centers within our bodies can unlock our inner potential and help us achieve balance in our lives. Today, we explore the second chakra, also known as the sacral chakra.

2nd Chakra Human Qualities

The human qualities of the second chakra include passion, creativity, pleasure, and emotional balance.

When our sacral chakra is in balance, we are able to express ourselves freely and enjoy life to its fullest. We feel confident in our abilities and are not afraid to take risks.

However, when this chakra is blocked or imbalanced, we may experience feelings of guilt, shame, or inadequacy.

2nd Chakra Symbols

The symbol of the sacral chakra is orange with six petals surrounding the center. The circles in connection with the lotus flower petals represent the cycles of birth, death, and rebirth. The tangential circles also create a crescent moon shape, which reminds us of the connection between creativity and the phases of the moon. The sacral chakra is associated with the element of water and governed by Hindu goddess Parvati1.

The traditional interpretation is that the lotus flower symbolizes the cycles of birth, death, and rebirth. This chakra is how we develop resilience in our lives.

As a water element, association with this chakra symbolizes flowing ebb and tide of our emotions and thoughts. As a result, this sacral chakra supports growth and changes in communication and interpersonal relationships with others and the world.

The Order of the 2nd Chakra

The genital chakra is the 2nd in the order of the chakras. It’s located in the lower abdomen and affects our emotions, creativity, and sexuality. It is represented by the color orange and is connected to the element of water. This chakra connects us with our feelings and desires, which leads to a more fulfilling life.

This chakra is the virtual hub from which your energy distributes throughout your whole being as energy moves from the base of the spine up through to the brain. Some believe that this keeps us young and vibrant.

Orange is the sacral chakra color which is near the red frequencies but actually operates at a higher level. The sacral chakra color manifests expressiveness and creativity. It’s the color of the sun and fills the heart with warmth.

Signs of 2nd Chakra Imbalance

When the second chakra is imbalanced, you may experience a range of physical and emotional symptoms. These can include:

  • Low libido
  • Difficulty expressing emotions
  • Creative blocks
  • Feelings of guilt or shame
  • Addictive behaviors
  • Unhealthy relationships

Let’s discuss a few of the behaviors to “red flag” to determine if you need to clear or balance your sacral chakra. First, does everything seem to be a crisis and nothing flows smoothly? This is a sign of sacral chakra imbalance.

Also, if you find it difficult to either make money or stand up for yourself, you may be due for some sacral chakra work. Another sign to look for is if you always have a need to control or completely give your power away in return for some type of gain. Of course, always look for the ability or lack of ability to give and receive nurturing from those around you.

Additionally, you might suffer from drug or alcohol addiction or if guilt and shame from the past won’t stop haunting you. Health issues might include bladder incontinence, sexual barriers, behavioral rigidity, lower back pain, and issues with large intestines.

If you identify with any of these symptoms, you might need to seek to balance your sacral chakra. Continue reading for some easy-to-understand techniques.

How to Balance the 2nd Chakra

There are several ways to balance the second chakra. One of the most effective methods is through meditation. Visualize the color orange and focus on the area around your lower abdomen. You can also practice yoga poses that stimulate the sacral chakra, such as the pigeon pose or the bound angle pose.

Visualization to Balance the 2nd Chakra

Imagine a bright orange ball that covers you from your navel to your genitals. Breath in and out slowly while you envision the ball expanding and contracting. Imagine the bright orange expanding and enveloping your entire being in the warm, orange glow.

Affirmation to Balance the 2nd Chakra

As I focus on this yellow light that radiates from my solar plexus, I am able to see all the people in my life, those from the past and present, my family, friends, and even foes. I see them in a circle of light, a loving, healing light. They are truly blessed in this circle, they are of good health and sound mind, they are at peace. I now choose to take back my power from all these people, and I lovingly release all feelings of any pain that they may have caused me. The more I release, the more I love, the more I love, the more I am loved!

(A deep breath in) I lovingly acknowledge, accept and appreciate.
